White House Police Detail Bars Media from Covering Gay Veteran Protest
Six gay military veterans gathered in Lafayette Park, a venue near the White House that has been the scene of protests for decades. The gay vets were protesting the “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell” policy first enacted by
President Clinton. “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” stipulates that gay military personnel can serve if they keep quiet about their orientation. In return the military would not actively investigate gay soldiers, sailors, airmen, and Marines. Many people believe this policy to be unfair and discriminatory.
